The trailer begins with two people (one of them being Sephiroth) playing what appears like chess and talking about the Lost Masters and the Keyblade War. During their discussion, the game cuts to Sora, who  battles his way across diverse environments and terrains on the brand new world the game is set in.

Throughout Soras scenes, you see familiar game play; Sora uses his keyblade to fight enemies, summons companions Donald and Goofy to fight along side him, and utilizes skills. Other abilities include summoning a objects made from lights, a roller coaster train, a ship, spinning teacups ride, and a winged horse and chariot to plow through enemies.

The trailer concludes with a return to Sephiroth, who explains that the “future is already written” and that light will fail and darkness prevails. However, his chess opponent suggests that he can go back and change things so that events work out in the Light’s favor. It will be interesting to see how these characters impact the storyline, and what roles they will play in Sora’s story, and the larger Kingdom Hearts 3 game.

Director Tetsuya Nomura said that Kingdom Hearts 3 will conclude the central conflict of Kingdom Hearts, but not the series itself, since “only the particular enemy they have been fighting the past 10 years will come to an end.” For many Kingdom Hearts fans, this is the game they have been waiting a decade for.

The game is also the first installment of Kingdom Hearts to come to one of Microsoft’s consoles; it’s being released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. A release date has not yet been given. Stay tuned to learn more details!
