How to Catch and Evolve Combee in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Combee is a Flying- and Bug-type Tiny Bee Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet that evolves into Vespiquen under the right conditions. While Vespiquen is not the best pick for damage output, the Beehive pocket monster can endure a beating, thanks to its notably high Defense and Special Defense IVs. Therefore, if you pit Vespiquen up against Ground-, Grass-, Fighting-, or Bug-type opponents, it will take little to no damage from their attacks. As a result, this pocket monster can be a strong counter pick when dealing with the two Titans, Iron Treads and Great Tusk

To evolve Combee into Vespiquen in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, you must have your Tiny Bee Pokémon meet two conditions. First, Combee must be a female, which is indicated by its gender icon in your Pokémon storage and its visual appearance. More specifically, female Combees have a noticeable red marking at the center of their three heads.

The second requirement for evolving Combee into Vespiquen in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is having the Tiny Bee pocket monster attain Level 21. If your Combee is a male and does not have the red marking on its body, it will remain as it is after reaching Level 21. However, a female Combee with the noticeable red spot will automatically evolve into Vespiquen once it gets to Level 21. This visual distinction between the two Combee genders is visible when encountering the pocket monster in the open world of Paldea. Therefore, there is no need to catch the Pokémon first to know its gender.

You should be able to find Combee relatively early on in your journey in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, as YouTuber Nirth has shown the pocket monster to appear in Area Two of the South Province, directly north of Cortondo. You will access this Area within the first few hours of the game. Wild Combees also inhabit the western coasts of West Province (Area One) and the small island formation southeast of Levincia. If you need to weaken Combee before catching it, you are encouraged to utilize Rock-, Fire-, Electric-, Ice-, and Flying-type Moves, as these five elements are its primary weaknesses. Rock, in particular, will deal four times the effective damage to Combee and Vespiquen.
